Rural Liberation

Liberating America's rural communities from the interests that seek to exploit them

America's rural communities are under attack.

From private interests seeking to exploit our public lands, to hospitals being at risk of closing due to lack of profits, to big corporations and foreign interests buying up America's farm land - our rural communities face a real and present danger. This especially applies to marginalized groups that live within America's rural communities. Rural Liberation is here to fight that.

Our Mission:

Rural Liberation's mission is to liberate rural communities from oppressive and unjust systems through advocacy and empowerment.

Our Vision:

Rural Liberation's vision is to create a world where rural America is no longer subject to oppressive and unjust systems.

Our Strategy:

The federal government can not be relied on to advocate for the well being of rural communities and state governments are co-opted by partisan politics. Because of this, Rural Liberation is taking a fundamentally different approach to creating change. We aim to organize rural communities around what can be done on a local level to protect their way of life and values. Town/city councils, school boards, county governments, and other local elected bodies will be where we build equitable and just systems that can take on the interests that seek to exploit working and marginalized people in our rural communities. From there, we aim to build power to create change through state and federal government bodies.  As our federal government agencies that take care of our public lands, rural education systems, and other important things are dismantled, this strategy will prepare our rural communities to survive and thrive.

The material conditions that rural communities organize under are just as important as the political environment. Because of this, Rural Liberation is committed to facilitating and coordinating mutual aid efforts. As our economy grows increasingly exploitative and unsustainable, it will be important for people to become dependent on each other without needing to exchange money or be dependent on government systems. It will be both through mutual aid and civic engagement that we liberate rural communities from exploitative interests.
